Mounted Positioning, Navigation and Timing receives successful full-rate production decision for MAPS GEN II

Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. – Project Manager Positioning, Navigation and Timing’s (PM PNT’s) Mounted PNT product office has received full-rate production (FRP) approval of its Mounted Assured, Positioning, Navigation and Timing System (MAPS) Generation (GEN) II—a vital Army modernization priority—from Program Executive Office Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors (PEO IEW&S). With this approval, Mounted PNT, along with vendor Collins Aerospace, may begin moving MAPS GEN II into full-rate production and fielding toward initial operating capability.

“I am humbled and honored to be a part of such an outstanding team of professionals,” said Lt. Col. Damian Dixon, product manager at Mounted PNT. “This monumental achievement is the culmination of over six years of hard work and dedication by PM PNT and Mounted PNT. They deserve all the credit and are the heroes of this accomplishment!”

MAPS GEN II provides GPS anti-spoofing and anti-jamming capability through sensor fusion algorithms and non-radio frequency sensors to distribute positioning, navigation, and timing data so mounted soldiers can operate in environments where military GPS is denied or degraded. It gives U.S. Army forces the ability to

move, shoot and communicate, and distributes PNT data to multiple clients on a single platform, eliminating redundant GPS receivers and antennas. The system features anti-jamming and anti-spoofing protection, a sensor fusion processor that utilizes multiple PNT sources, open architectures (ASPN and VICTORY) and outputs PNT through multiple distribution standards.

“This has been a team effort,” said Dixon, “and we are appreciative for the support from PEO IEW&S, the All-Domain Sensing Cross Functional Team, Director Operational Test and Evaluation, Army Capability Manager – Tactical Radio, Communications-Electronics Command, Integrated Logistics Support Center, and Army Test and Evaluation Command. We remain committed to collaborating with Collins Aerospace as we move into this next phase for MAPS GEN II.”
